SPC Holds Earth Hour Photo Contest
"Even Mother Earth needs a rest."
This was the caption in one of the entries to Sharp (Phils.) Corporation's Earth Hour Photo Contest. The contest encouraged the members of the general public to take a creative photo related to the observance of Earth Hour 2016 and to post it in the SPC Facebook page. Furthermore, the contest participants were encouraged to provide a response to the question, "How can I help address the issue of climate change beyond Earth Hour?"
This year, Earth Hour took place on 19 March 2016 (Saturday), 8:30pm-9:30 pm. It began as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Since then, it has grown to engage more than 172 countries and territories worldwide. For Earth Hour 2016, the Philippines touted as the 3rd most vulnerable country to climate change. This year's theme is "Empowering People to Change Climate Change."
"People are a significant part of the solution to climate change", says SPC Personnel Manager Eugene Villa. "This philosophy is what encouraged us to hold this photo contest - as our way of conveying to the people that the key to a more sustainable and climate change-resilient future, just like taking a photo, is in our hands."
"For Mother Earth to rest, we need to wake up and act now", he added.
