Sharp Philippines Supports Climate Change Song-Writing Competition

Sharp (Phils.) Corporation (SPC) witnessed the finals night of KaLikhaSan (Kantang Likha Para sa Kalikasan, translated as 'song for the environment'), a national climate change songwriting contest on adaptation that aimed to make the youth aware of critical environmental issues and their role in building climate-smart and resilient communities.

SPC, which served as one of the major sponsors of the event, was represented by Personnel Manager Eugene Villa, Senior Supervisor Cristeta Sauro, and Assistant Supervisor Sylva Sese.

The contest was in line with the climate change awareness campaign of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Environmental Protection (OPAEP), the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA), and the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD).
Under the leadership of Philippine Presidential Adviser Secretary Neric Acosta, the three organizers, with the support of SPC, joined forces to make climate change more understandable to the youth. "The reality of climate change has forced upon societies a rethinking of old assumptions and the order of things", said Acosta. 

With popular Filipino singer-songwriter Noel Cabangon heading the distinguished panel of judges. The three finalists performed their best to win the coveted prize. The package which included cash, a trip to Bali, Indonesia, and a Sharp washing machine. The night ended with Julius Teodoro clinching the top prize for his composition "Paghimlay ng Mundo".

"SPC is very proud to be part of this event. We hope to make youth aware of the challenges brought about by climate change", said SPC Personnel Manager Villa.
